Diamond Facts

The word diamond comes from a Greek word "adamas" meaning "unbreakable". Diamonds are made up of carbon and have been used as adornments for at least 3000 years because of their natural beauty.

Diamonds are the hardest natural materials in existence, which is one reason why they are so well suited for everyday wear in engagement and wedding rings.

Diamonds are formed over a period of a billion years or more within the earth's crust - about 150 mm deep. They are pushed to the surface by volcanoes and most are found in volcanic rock, called kimberlite.
